Welcome to Episode 035 of Tom Ryan’s Success in Business Podcast, the weekday show that offers how-to advice for entrepreneurs. This show is a continuation from the previous episode on which Tom talked about the Asheville Startup Weekend.
But for the very first time in the history of this podcast, Tom and Jason the producer welcome their first special guest, Leanna Miller, from COMPOSIA. Leanna is one of the organizers of Startup Weekend, so it’s great to have her on the show to learn from her insights and perspective.
The Asheville Startup Weekend is slated for the weekend of August 28 through August 30, 2015. During this show, Tom and Leanna describe how the weekend begins on Friday with open-mic presentations in which anyone can introduce his or her ideas. The best ideas are selected, and all the attendees break into various teams to work on the handful of ideas that are chosen for development during the course of the weekend.
Tom and Leanna talk about how the teams develop their business models and products. The teams pitch their businesses on Sunday night, and the best idea wins!
Tom discusses the rich value of such an experience due to the opportunities to learn something new, network with like-minded people who are also motivated, practice pitching ideas and developing business models. And Leanna spends some time sharing a few tips on how to get the most out of your Startup Weekend experience.
